Nursing Competency: Are nurses ready to care for patients?

Troubled Florissant Nursing Home: Losing funding after resident dies from bleeding. So how do we prepare our nurses to be ready for caring for different types of patients in the long term care setting? This year, the phase 2 survey process starts to look at competency for nursing assistants. But isn't that short changing if we don't prepare our licensed nurses. We see dialysis patients almost daily and care for them in our setting, pre and post treatment. Read on, don't you think the DON should have been held to a higher standard?
